Supporting Latinx Students in Rigorous Learning Environments
I came into the HTH GSE program hoping to build on my knowledge and leadership skill sets. While passionate about education, I didn't have a clear direction of what I wanted to focus on for my capstone work. The first year in our program was designed to introduce and familiarize our cohort to issues, concepts and educational frameworks from educational communities around the country. The goal, I believe, was to give us some sense of what we might focus on and develop for our capstone project.
Through leadership projects, research and a lot of listening, I became aware of the disparities in learning experiences for the Latinx community in our country as well as our schools and felt compelled to focus my attention on generating change ideas that would undo some of the factors that were negatively impacting Latinx students in our schools. My final paper can be viewed from this LINK
